NIC Code for a Construction Company

For a construction company the principal NIC-2008 code in SPICe+ Part A is 41001 — “Construction of buildings carried out on own-account basis or on a fee or contract basis.” Seen on two of this firm’s own real company filings, both paired with 43900.

68100 Real estate activities with own or leased property FDI caveat applies.

41001 covers building construction generally, whether the company builds on its own land to sell/lease (own-account) or as a contractor for someone else’s project (contract basis). 43900 (“other specialised construction activities”) is commonly filed alongside it for niche trade work — fit-outs, finishing, specialised contract scopes.

If the company is really a real-estate developer — buying land, constructing, then selling or leasing units as its core business model — consider adding 68100 (real estate with own/leased property) as a secondary code alongside 41001. A pure electrical or plumbing contractor should use the more specific installation codes rather than 41001. MOA wording: “to carry on the business of construction and development of residential, commercial and industrial buildings, on own account or on a contract basis.”

Before you file

  • The proposed company name and the MOA main‑objects clause should both be consistent with the NIC activity and description.
  • You may list up to three NIC‑2008 five‑digit sub‑classes; mark one as primary. Real filings this firm has checked almost always carry 2–3, not one.
  • Use NIC‑2008, not NIC‑2025 — MCA has not adopted NIC‑2025 for SPICe+ as of 2026.
  • If a result above carries a regulator flag (RBI / SEBI / IRDAI) or an OPC caveat, resolve that before choosing your company type and filing.

FAQ

What is the NIC code for a real estate developer that also builds?

File 41001 (construction) as primary if construction is the core activity, with 68100 (real estate with own/leased property) as a secondary code if the company also holds and sells/leases the developed units as its business model.

Is a civil engineering contractor a different code from a building contractor?

Building construction is 41001. Civil engineering work like roads, utilities and infrastructure sits in division 42 (e.g. 42909 for other civil engineering projects) — use whichever matches the company's main scope, both if it genuinely does both.

What NIC code for an electrical or plumbing contracting company?

Electrical installation is 43211; plumbing, heating and air-conditioning installation is 43221 — both specific sub-classes under specialised construction, separate from the general 41001/43900 codes.
